Italian-Style Creamed Spinach

Italian-Style Creamed Spinach

This isn’t your average creamed spinach - it’s rich, garlicky, and perfectly seasoned the Italian way. Borsari Original Seasoned Salt and Olive Oil turn this classic side into a warm, comforting dish that’s ready in minutes.

Ready in: 25 minutes   |   Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh spinach (or 3 packages frozen, thawed and drained)
  • 2 tbsp Borsari Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Borsari Original
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg (optional but recommended)

Directions

  1. Prep the spinach: If using fresh spinach, blanch it in boiling water for 1 minute until wilted, then drain and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. Roughly chop and set aside.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm Borsari Olive Oil and butter. Add the onion and cook 3 to 4 minutes until soft and translucent. Stir in the garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  3. Make it creamy: Pour in the heavy cream and season with Borsari Original pepper, and nutmeg. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add the spinach: Fold in the spinach and cook another 3 to 4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Finish with Parmesan: Stir in the grated Parmesan until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning as desired.
  6. Serve warm:  the perfect Italian-inspired side for your Thanksgiving table.
